To compete against the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Audi took the Sportback Concept and turned it into the A7 in 2010. It came with a longer and sleeker body than the A6, but shared a lot of the same design features. Now in its second generation, Audi continues to update the lineup's technology and exterior to ensure that it remains competitive and relevant for today's buyers.

Audi A7 generations
Second Generation (2018 to Present)
With the release of the second generation, Audi made sure that the main design elements of the A7 were carried over, but with some important enhancements. The goal was to improve the look of the A7 with more pronounced contours as well as improve its driving dynamics.
Carrying over the digitalisation from the A8 models, the A7 received upgraded technology. Frameless windows were also carried over, ensuring that the Sportback retained its sleek fastback appearance.

The A7 was built to stand out in the luxury car market, with the styling features of an estate wagon, saloon and coupé wrapped into one package. From the front, the A7 had a large single-frame grille, similar to that found on the A8. From the side, the sloping roofline stood out and a retractable rear spoiler gave it a sporty look.
In 2014, a refresh was offered with more striking changes to the bumper and grille, while Matrix LED headlights became available. Unique indicator lights were also added, while the taillights received a redesign.
